Made with love in Charleston, South Carolina.
Hi! My name is Emily and “About” pages are sew hard for me. I type four words, stare at the screen, backspace a couple times, twitch my nose and stare out the window wondering how to convey the rat’s nest of thoughts running through my mind.
And perhaps that’s why I love to sew, make, and create. I get lost in my own little world. My thoughts and emotions are expressed through my art (and I never have to stop to spell check).
But since I am here on this “About” page (and like a true procrastinator, this is the last page I must complete for this bad boy to be live… I’m going to do my best here… bare with me).
I want to make one of a kind wearable art - clothing that is practical but also a conversation starter. Each piece is intended to be worn with love and passed down as an heirloom treasure.
Quilts tell stories - through the patterns selected, the fabrics used, type of stitches, and overall construction. When a quilt or vintage textile can no longer serve its intended purpose, I get sew much joy and excitement from giving it a second chance to continue its story telling ability.
I am also a big hippie at heart. Sew get ready for me on my soap box (I’ll keep it brief). The fashion industry is one of the worst environmental polluters on the planet. By using materials already in existence and creating timeless pieces, I am hoping to curb the demand for fast fashion.
Sew this is it, the “About” page for Ratta Tatta. And I’m pretty happy with it.
